Produced by Bill Ham, Fandango! was ZZ Top's fourth studio album and one of their most distinctive: a half-live, half-studio record, with side one captured live at The Warehouse in New Orleans and side two cut in the studio. It gave the band their breakthrough single in "Tush" — a two-minute Texas boogie sung by Dusty Hill that climbed to #20 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album reached #10 on the Billboard 200 and went on to earn Platinum certification from the RIAA, cementing the raw guitar-bass-drums attack that would define ZZ Top for the next fifty years. The lineup: Billy Gibbons (guitar, vocals), Dusty Hill (bass, vocals), and Frank Beard (drums). For more than half a century, Dusty Hill's rumbling bass and warm, weathered harmonies were the beating heart of ZZ Top's groove — never flashy, always exactly in the pocket. He sang lead on "Tush," one of the band's defining moments, and his low end anchors every bar of this record. Dusty passed away in 2021, but the swing he laid down here still rolls on.
