Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Mary Jane's Last Dance - Cover
Alright, more Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers! Mary Jane's Last Dance. It was recorded during Tom's "Wildflowers" era and as such was produced by Rick Rubin, Tom, and Mike. It was included as a new single for Tom's Greatest Hits album in 1993. The song also marks the end of Stan Lynch's tenure in the band as drummer. This is too bad, because he a big part of the Heartbreakers. Changing any one of them would change the sound. And it did change with Steve Ferrone. Not worse. Not better. Different. Still, I prefer the sound of the band with Stan. This is remastered version of a previously posted Jamthrough. I'm planning on applying an improved EQ patch to a bunch of videos. Time. You learn to get more out of the original source material. These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It's worth it. Why this is important to Rhythm Guitar: It's the mixing of Tom Petty's Electric to the front this time. For the most part the key guitar parts on this song were played by Tom. He does not get enough credit for his Rhythm Guitar playing in the band. While no virtuoso, Tom's Rhythm style was really unique. He was all about the downstroke. Still, Mike Campbell plays some nice bits. And those opening harmonics by Mike? Pretty sure I only missed one... #echohead #rhythmguitar #powerpop #maryjane’slastdanceguitar
