Simply Inverting Negatives To Positive Might Be The Wrong Way To Do It

In this video, I explain why Photoshop’s standard Invert command is not always the best way to convert black and white film negatives, especially when working with linear scans. A simple Photoshop invert can turn a negative into a positive, but it does not properly account for the way black and white film negatives behave when scanned as linear files. Linear scans preserve more of the original captured light values, which can be useful for serious film scanning workflows, but they need a more considered conversion process than a basic image reversal. I demonstrate the difference between using Photoshop Invert and using the DBW Linear Scans desktop application for black and white negative conversion. This video is for black and white film photographers, darkroom photographers, hybrid film shooters, DSLR scanning users and anyone working with linear raw scans, linear scanner files or low adjustment black and white negative scans.
