Soon after entering Gensokyo, she learned of the existence of Touhou M-1 and became interested in it. She watched the records of previous tournaments and studied manzai day in and day out. Having gained an understanding of comedy, and having gained confidence in her ability to win, she scrambled to find a partner. She looked for someone close to her, but found that Mononobe no Futo was difficult to control and Soga no Tojiko had a weak presence. While struggling to find a partner, she discovered the existence of Hata no Kokoro. When the 8th tournament ended, the two of them began intense training together. Hata no Kokoro is slow and introverted. She is especially bad with emotions, being emotionally unstable and having multiple personalities. Furthermore, she is easily influenced by the emotions of others around her, and, due to Seija Kijin working behind-the-scenes during the tournament, her words can easily become extreme and violent.
