The Apex is an involvement-style log modeled after the pig design that was popular in Australia in the early 1960s. Featuring wide, set-back hips and a narrower nose than the typical log, this board doesn’t ride like a traditional noserider. Instead, it is faster and more maneuverable, pivoting quickly from the tail due to the slight down rail on the tail block and the pronounced hips rear of center. But it is still a single-fin log, and it can still be noseridden. The difference is that while traditional, “popsicle-stick” shaped noseriders can support tip time on the shoulder, the Apex demands that you be deep in the pocket if you want to noseride. In other words, it’s an alternative option for experienced noseriders looking for something that is technical and unforgiving—but that can support turns and tens in areas of the wave where your normal noserider would spin out.
