Review of the Retra Pro Max strobe. The Retra Flash Pro Max is Retra's latest top-end strobe. It has a redesigned battery compartment and booster, as well as a rear OLED screen added to the back. This is an attractive upgrade for Retra shooters with older strobe models or for any shooter looking for a medium-sized, wide-angle strobe with plenty of features, including HSS with compatible triggers, S-TTL, a user-programmable custom mode, and the ability to update the firmware via Bluetooth. At Backscatter, we take the testing of strobes very seriously in order to provide our customers with the most accurate comparison between different models. As there isn't any industry standard for measuring strobe performance, we rely on our in-house testing process. Our testing process includes underwater testing of the strobe's guide number and beam pattern using a professional light meter inside a custom-made housing. We also conduct on-land testing of the strobe's color temperature, recycle time, and flash duration using a light meter and a spectrophotometer in a controlled environment.
