Canyon Spectral AL 6 Review | A Promising Package With Plenty Of Potential

Competing with the likes of the Specialized Stumpjumper, Trek Fuel EX and Giant Trance X, the Spectral has long been Canyon's most popular mountain bike platform. It's spawned numerous iterations over the years, having been produced in alloy and carbon with nearly every wheelsize. It was one of the first mainstream options to be offered with a mullet, and it was the model that was chosen to debut the K.I.S steering stabiliser. Canyon even developed a niche-y short travel offshoot called the Spectral 125. While comprehensive, the sheer number of options across the Spectral lineup had been making things just a tad confusing for the average consumer. No doubt it had made things difficult for inventory management too. With the aim of consolidating its range, Canyon introduced a new Spectral CF (carbon) last year that saw a suite of updates to the frame design, suspension and geometry to improve its versatility. This year the Spectral AL (alloy) follows suit, incorporating many of the same changes while bringing down the price of entry. Having been impressed with the Spectral CF 9 that we reviewed last year, Wil was eager to try out the cheaper metal version. Would it be a lesser bike on the trail?
