Embers fall after huge firenado breaks out in Scheveningen

Scheveningen, a coastal resort in the Netherlands, traditionally competes with neighbour Duindorp to build the largest New Year's bonfire. This year, strong winds caused terrifying fire tornadoes that raged out of control and ignited fires on the roofs of nearby homes and buildings. The bonfire was supposed to be 150ft tall but Pauline Krikke, the Mayor of The Hague, said that it could have been '13 metres (42 ft) higher' as builders had 'added stacks of wood overnight'.
