Nepenthes, come prendersi cura di una pianta carnivora

► Subscribe to the channel http://bit.ly/VivaiLeGeorgicheYT There is something truly fascinating about nepenthes. Like all carnivorous plants, it arouses a lot of curiosity, but it, together with Dionaea, perhaps ranks in the imagination as one of the "carnivorous plants par excellence". With its pendulous pitchers, almost like mouths always on the alert, ready to let the unfortunate insect of the moment fall into them. And yet, it is not such a hunter, in fact, as we will see later, it has no mechanism that forces the prey to enter. Oh no, nepenthes are much more subtle and very effective traps. You will never see one of its pitchers close unexpectedly, and yet insects fall for the trick. How is it possible? Well, as we were saying, it is rather subtle, it transforms into an inviting surface covered in sugary substances and then, once it has convinced the insect to lean over the edge, nothing more. Just a little black hole from which it will never escape. Good heavens, it may seem a bit cruel, but after all, it is nature and the nepenthes do nothing but become part of a mechanism as elaborate as it is simple. Ready? Let's get closer to the nepenthes too, but be careful not to lean too far out! ► Read the whole article - https://www.venditapianteonline.it/bl... ► Buy your nepenthes here - https://www.venditapianteonline.it/ar... NEPENTHES Nepenthes is the only genus belonging to the Nepenthaceae family, and concerns a family of plants that is native to the Indian Ocean area and which has then spread throughout the world. The name was given by Linnaeus and comes from the ancient Greek “ne” which means “not” and “pénthos”, “pain”. The reason for this name is really suggestive, in fact Linnaeus chose it not thinking about the insects that unfortunately found themselves falling into it, but because he had the feeling that every botanist, after a long and complex journey in south-east Asia, if he had found a nepenthes would have felt satisfied and fulfilled. In short, almost as if the mere sight of a nepenthes could have forgotten all the efforts made to reach it. A very positive note is that it is also a very long-lived plant, so expect this plant to remain a guest in your home for years! ASCIDI The leaves of the nepenthes have a lanceolate shape, a beautiful green and, at their apex they continue with a hook formation that ends with a sort of jug that is called ascidium and is the actual trap that the plant uses to capture insects. The trap, on its top, is surmounted by a sort of cap, which takes the name of operculum, its function is not so much to close the insect inside the pitcher, but rather it serves to regulate the quantity of rainwater that can, or cannot, fall into the pitcher. This mechanism serves to prevent the gastric juices present inside the pitcher from diluting too much, making the plant's attempt to digest the prey futile. The great weapon of pitchers is that they are equipped with nectariferous glands, especially in the part closest to the opening. These glands have the task of secreting a sugary substance, similar to nectar, very attractive for insects that therefore arrive attracted by the bright colors and the scent, and fall inside the pitcher. Inside they will then find themselves trapped in a substance comparable to our gastric juices that will consume them and allow the plant to absorb the nutrients. ► Read the whole article - https://www.venditapianteonline.it/bl... ► Buy your nepenthes here - https://www.venditapianteonline.it/ar... #VivaiLeGeorgiche #Plants #Nepenthes ---------------------------------------------------------- VIVAI LE GEORGICHE - Your online nursery!
