ADL Enviro400s from 2011 and 2012, And Diesel & hybrid ADL Enviro400 MMCs from 2016 and 2017. Route 169 runs between Clayhall, The Glade and Barking, London Road. The route serves The Glade, Copper Beech Close, Ravensbourne Gardens, Aintree Crescent, Fullwell Cross, Waverley Gardens, Barkingside Police Station, Barkingside Station, Aldwych Avenue, Eastern Avenue, Perth Road, Griggs Approach, Hainault Street, Redbridge Central Library, Ilford Chapel Road, Dudley Road, Loxford Polyclinic, Barking Station, Barking Town Centre and North Street. The 169 runs every 10 to 20 minutes. The route runs from 04:20 until 00:50. It is around 6 miles (10 km) long. A full journey on the route takes around 25 to 50 minutes. The 169 is operated by Stagecoach London from Barking (BK) garage. The route is allocated 14 double deck buses. The 169 connects to several rail lines, including... The London Underground Central line at Barkingside, The Elizabeth Line at Ilford, Chapel Street (for Ilford), The London Underground District line at Barking, The London Underground Hammersmith & City line at Barking, The London Overground Suffragette line at Barking, And National Rail (c2c) at Barking. The 169 started running in 1959, meaning it's now around 66 years old. The route originally ran between Barkingside and Barking, London Road. It was operated by London Transport from Barking garage with RTs. The 169 replaced trolleybus route 691, which was withdrawn. The first major change to the 169 happened in 1964, when Routemasters entered service. In 1965, the 169 was diverted in Barkingside to no longer terminate at the high street. The 169's Sunday service was then extended beyond Barkingside High Street in 1968. New Daimler Fleetlines entered service in September 1973. At the same time, the Sunday service was extended to the Gascoigne Estate. Leyland Titans then replaced the Daimler Fleetlines in June 1980. In September 1982, the 169 was extended from Barking to Thames View Estate. The route replaced the 179 and 199. The 169 was then cut back to Barking from Thames View Estate in 1991. In March 1993, single decker Optare Deltas and Wright Handybuses replaced the Titans. New Plaxton Pointers then replaced the Wright Handybuses in September 1995. In 1997, the 169 converted to low floor operation with new ALX200s. Double deckers then re-entered service on the route in 2001. When ALX400s started being used. New ADL Enviro400s then entered service in 2011. In March 2025, the 169 was retained by Stagecoach. The route was changed slightly to terminate at Abbey Green instead of London Road. The first electric on the 169 entered service on the 2nd of October 2025.
