The Roberson Family: From Overseas Ball to Hard Times & Back | Episode 1

In Episode 1 of the Roberson Family series, John and Lisa Roberson share the early foundation of their family. From how they met, to raising seven children while navigating professional basketball life overseas. John Roberson, a former standout at New Mexico State Aggies, went on to play 12 years professionally overseas. During that time, parts of their family experienced international living, shaping the older and younger children differently what they describe as raising “two generations” under different seasons of life. They also open up about one of the hardest chapters in their journey. After trusting a superstar athlete with their finances, the investment went wrong and the family lost everything financially. At one point, they experienced homelessness. Instead of allowing that season to define them, they leaned into faith, discipline, and family unity while rebuilding from the ground up. John reflects on driving vehicles with 200,000–300,000 miles back and forth to Lubbock and Colorado to support their children’s basketball dreams showing what sacrifice really looks like behind the scenes. The Robersons are parents of: Their seven children who have competed across Division I athletics, representing schools like Texas Tech, Texas, Colorado, West Virginia, TCU, Duke, and more. The family includes professional athletes overseas and even an NBA player.
