Hello, today we are at the Nazas River in Ciudad Lerdo, Durango, in the Laguna region. Without a doubt, it is a magical place worth coming and visiting. Currently, the Nazas ecosystems are in serious danger due to the overexploitation of its waters by agriculture, mainly dedicated to the production of fodder for dairy cattle. The Nazas River has a protected natural area, the "Cañón de Fernández State Park," located in the municipality of Lerdo. The Fernández Canyon is an important biological corridor for hundreds of species of amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Along its banks, you can find ahuehuetes or sabinos (Taxodium mucronatum) that are more than 1,300 years old. It is important to protect the Nazas River since the entire Laguna population depends on the filling of the aquifers for their survival. We hope the authorities and citizens continue to monitor the new healthy water program to ensure it works effectively and properly, as failure to do so could have catastrophic effects on the residents of Laguna.
