Before reaching Turpan, we stopped in Shanshan, where we discovered a fascinating desert tradition: locals bury themselves in the scorching sand, believed to have healing powers. We were warmly welcomed by a group of friendly Kazakh people, who even invited Flo to join them. Together, they stayed buried for more than 20 minutes in sand that was hotter than 40°C!
