When a woman in labor was carried five kilometers on a bamboo stretcher — and if the river was flooded, she often didn't make it. When the only doctor anyone could reach was a man with a rooster and a fistful of grain. This is the story of the tribal belt around Poshina and Khedbrahma in Gujarat; and the medical van that changed it. When the first van visited these villages in 1997, people ran. Children hid, convinced the white vehicle belonged to men who stole kids. Trust doesn't arrive on a truck; it has to be earned. One visit at a time. Today, 13 medical vans reach over 170 villages, treating 2,60,000 patients every year, nearly 26 lakh over the last decade alone. Free medicine. Follow-up visits. Real guidance instead of rituals.
