Faire ses comptes au Moyen Âge, avec Julie Claustre

Welcome to a medieval Parisian boutique! The program "Our Memories" invites you to discover a text that is not in itself exceptional or unique, but which is the only account book of a medieval craftsman preserved today (BNF). Between December 1420 and March 1455, based on the left bank of the Seine, in the Saint-Severin district, the couturier Colin de Lormoye sold his creations to the elite of early 15th-century Paris. He bought, made, sold, and kept his accounts on sheets of paper. These sheets were partially transcribed, explained, and analyzed by historian Julie Claustre in a book published by Belles Lettres. Our guest: A graduate of the École Normale Supérieure and agrégée in history, Julie Claustre is a lecturer in medieval history at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She specializes in 14th- and 15th-century economic and social history.
