Wall chasing and box sinking
Contains strong language, scenes of violence and full frontal male nudity… actually, that last one got cut from the edit. In this vid, we’re wall chasing, stitch drilling and box sinking on a Victorian house with crumbly walls. These methods on newer builds result in cleaner finishes, but on older properties we sometimes end up having to mess about with cement to aid in keeping our accessories in place. I prefer the box sinker while Nige has a semi-on for stitch drilling. Some PPE is lacking in places, but.. well.. that’s the real world for you: what we old farts do out on our own sites isn’t necessarily what you should do! This isn’t the prettiest first fix, but it’s not the most ideal wall to be working with, and at least when second fix rolls around we can be sure things will be level, so we’ll get some footage of that uploaded in the coming weeks. My box sinker chisel has no guide drill (it’s broken off) which is why it wanders a little upon use. The wall chaser normally gives us cleaner lines, but the crumbly plaster here was flaking off around us. Each knockout-box has at least one screw into good brickwork, but because the bricks were falling to bits, we had to secure them with cement (Toolstation code 87635). This kitchen was already on its own ring circuit which we tested before modification. The white flexes are for DC feeds for the undercabinet lights which, at the time, we had no data on as the kitchen fitter was supplying them. Apologies for the audio, my crap wireless microphone was in use for the first part, the rest was on the camcorder mic. I’ve tried to enhance it, lose the buzzing, even it out and what have you, but it still sounds awful. Follow-up video showing second fix: • A quick second-fix follow up!
