PRESENT VS PAST PARTICIPLE #participle #presentparticiple #pastparticiple

#presentparticiple #pastparticiple #justspeakenglishclub A present participle is a verb form that ends in -ing. Examples include 'eating,' 'running,' or 'reading.' This form is often used for two main purposes: to form the continuous tense and as an adjective. For example, in the sentence 'She is eating breakfast,' the word 'eating' is a present participle used to form the continuous tense. Or, for example: The dog was sleeping when I got home last night. Now, for adjectives, for example, in the sentence 'The running water sounds relaxing,' the word 'running' describes the noun 'water.' Running is an adjective. Let's look at other examples: A barking dog, the falling leaves. So, what about the PAST Participle, sis? The Past Participle is the past tense form of a verb. Simply put, the past participle is the third form, which usually ends with -ed for regular verbs, such as 'worked,' 'studied,' 'worried,' etc., or has a special form for irregular verbs, such as 'eaten,' 'gone,' 'done,' etc. Now, just like the present participle, the Past Participle, or what you might call the Passive Participle, is used in the perfect tense or as an adjective. "For example, in the sentence 'She has eaten breakfast,' the word 'eaten' is the past participle, indicating that breakfast was finished. Meanwhile, as an adjective, we can see an example in the sentence 'He fixed the broken chair,' where 'broken' in the phrase, the broken chair, describes the condition of the chair. Other examples are: The painted wall, etc. So, what do you think? Do you understand? Pretty simple, right? Hey. But wait, young people, learning the present participle and past participle can actually be more in-depth and detailed. They even usually appear in advanced questions. Curious? Okay, let's dive into it. Okay. So, here it is. Actually, we can also obtain present participles and past participles by reducing adjective clauses and/or adverbial clauses. Oh, what else is this? Okay, be patient, young people, I'll explain slowly. Have you ever heard a sentence like this: 'The man running in the park is my friend.' Do you know which participle is it? Yup, it's the word "running." The sentence just now actually begins with the reduction of the adjective clause I mentioned above. The question is, why does it need to be reduced? How do we do it? Let's discuss them one by one. So, Often in sentences, we create quite complex expressions or sentences using adjective clauses and adverbial clauses. For example, you've probably heard or read sentences like this: Water, which consists of hydrogen and oxygen, is very fundamental for our life. After the students had completed the test, they handed in their papers and left the room. Now, if you pay attention, these sentences are quite complex and long. This is why we can reduce, reduce, or simplify sentences like these using the present and past participles. How do we do it? Let's discuss the present participle first. Reduced Adjective Clause (Abbreviation of Adjective Clauses) In In this section, you can create simpler sentences by eliminating adjective clauses. To do this, pay attention to the following pattern: V ING …. = + WHO/WHICH + V1/V2/BE V.ING Examples: 1. The man standing under the tree is looking at me = The man who is standing….. 2. I know the man stealing my money yesterday = ….The man who stole … 3. The water consisting of Hydrogen and Oxygen is very important = The water which consists…. Reduced Specific Adverbial Clause (Shortening in Certain Adverbial Clauses) Shortening here can occur only if the Subject of the adverbial clause = Subject of the main clause V ING…, SENTENCE = WHEN/WHILE + SENTENCE, SENTENCE = BECAUSE/SINCE/AS/FOR + SENTENCE, SENTENCE Examples: While Rina was waiting for the bus, Rina read newspapers (= waiting for the bus, Rina reads newspaper) Because I love you so much, I give everything Continue....
