Abtenau is a charming town in the Lammertal valley in the state of Salzburg. Surrounded by snowy alpine peaks, it is known as a peaceful gateway to the mountains and a starting point for scenic drives through traditional Austrian villages and valleys. Leaving Abtenau, the journey follows Route 162, running along the beautiful Lammer River. This river shapes the dramatic valley landscape of the region. Shortly after the start, the drive passes the quiet rural area of Lindenthal, where wooden alpine houses and snowy meadows reflect the authentic countryside atmosphere of the Austrian Alps. The road soon connects with Route 166, one of the most scenic mountain routes in the region.
