Did you know that approximately three out of four medical diagnoses are based on or confirmed by laboratory tests? On today's World Laboratory Day, we gain insight into the microbiology department of the Chemnitz Laboratory. There, around 20,000 human samples are examined monthly for bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Department head Dr. Marika Roch and physician Kerstin Jähnichen demonstrate exactly what happens when a urine and saliva sample is tested for a specific pathogen.
