One Way You Can Use the Under Jab. This is For All Fighters. Tom Yankello of the  @World Class Boxing Channel  is back to teach you another way to teach you one way you can use the under jab. What is the under jab you may ask. Watch the entire video as Tom will teach you one way you can use the under jab. The under jab is where he slips and drives it from underneath. This jab is the same position as throwing the under jab, but he is starting the jab from a lower position, but then shoots upwards and hits you with his knuckles. You aren't hitting him with your thumb. To help visualize, Tom refers to this as the coffee mug jab. It's like you are picking up a coffee mug. The key is you are making the guy raise up just like you do with the up jab. You can also hook off that jab. Using the under jab in a fight, Carmen Basilio used this against Sugar Ray Robinson and then threw the hook right off of it. You can also throw that jab and throw the right hand. If you are fighting a southpaw you can shoot your jab up through the guard and counter with a hook or counter with a right hand. Tom then demonstrates the jab if you are a southpaw. The southpaw can counter with the left hand or counter with the hook. If you had a southpaw vs a southpaw, you still jab through the guard. He dips and punches through the guard.
