Bach : Partita n°2 : Chaconne (Nemanja Radulovic, violon)

The fifth movement of the Partita No.2 in D minor for solo violin by Johann Sebastian Bach is performed by Nemanja Radulovic. Live recording on June 21th 2018 in the Studio 104 of Radio France (Paris). Composed between 1718 and 1720, Bach’s Chaconne is one of the most impressive violin pieces of all time, remarkable for its length ( 15 minutes, equal to the rest of the Partita) and for the complexity of its composition. About the piece, Johannes Brahms says (in a letter addressed to Clara Schumann) : “On one stave, for a small instrument, the man writes a whole world of the deepest thoughts and most powerful feelings. If I imagined that I could have created, even conceived the piece, I am quite certain that the excess of excitement and earth-shattering experience would have driven me out of my mind.” By the way, he made a transcription of this work for the left hand at the piano, one of the most famous transcription of Bach’s Chaconne being Busoni ’s one for the piano.
