September 2, 1945 — Tokyo Bay. On board an American ship (for security reasons), two senior Japanese officials, along with representatives of the Allied forces, are invited by General MacArthur to sign Japan’s act of surrender. At the end of the ceremony, a massive fleet of American aircraft is scheduled to fly over the ship and then over the city of Tokyo — a spectacular way to demonstrate that the Americans are taking control of Japan. But the show does not go as planned.
