"What a woman told me in 30 minutes changed my life. She asked me if I wanted to acknowledge the Lord, and at that moment, at 19 years old, I'll never forget March 29, 2022. I've been serving God for 22 years... I always say it jokingly, 'God came into me and the devil left,'" Lewis stated. She acknowledged that in her family, she never received any instruction in the faith. "The little I knew about the Lord was related to Catholicism. I even made my First Communion at age 9, but I always felt conflicted when I went to church and saw the image of Jesus," she told us. The journalist and former Minister of Education, Lucy Molinar, inspired her because at the time, she was the only television presenter with dark skin who was successful on the country's screens. "Lucy Molinar's message—I remember she was the only dark-skinned television presenter in the country—was impactful for me. There has always been a negative stigma associated with being from Colón and having dark skin. She said that her studies and sacrifices had helped her succeed amidst all that hardship, need, and scarcity. When I heard that, I said, 'That's the way,'" Lewis confessed.
