I wonder how many of you have passed by this building without realizing that it was there that not only specialized mechanical parts for tractors were manufactured, but also simple everyday devices like hammers. Everyone dreamed of time travel as a child. Often, we would build a time machine and escape to another reality, or another country. Dreams come true, as Majka Jeżowska sang. This week, that's exactly what happened. I stepped into the time machine and found myself in 1927. At the beginning of the aluminum foundry at the Ursus plant. The iron foundries themselves were designed by Kazimierz Gierdziejewski; that's how you rush down his street to the Ursus market. Original furnaces, overhead cranes, a hardening plant, elevators, and finally, the entire hall where generations of our neighborhood's residents worked. Thanks to the kindness of the owners of ASmet, Ms. Magdalena Sajnaga-Orlinska and her father, Mr. Andrzej Sajnaga, I had the opportunity to enter this place with my camera. The people were extremely friendly and also provided guides. The plant was divided into two parts: a metallurgical plant (on the western side) and a car factory (on the eastern side). The western part of the building initially included the iron foundry hall (No. 2), as well as a warehouse (No. 3), a semi-precious metal (bronze) foundry (No. 4), a porter's lodge (No. 5), residential buildings (Nos. 1 and 6), the power plant headquarters building (No. 12), and warehouses (No. 14). The dominant element of the metallurgical factory was the iron foundry hall, which housed factory offices, locker rooms, workers' washrooms, model storage rooms, and auxiliary rooms. Kazimierz Gierdziejewski, one of the most distinguished Polish and European foundry specialists, who had been employed at the Ursus plant since 1921, participated in the foundry's design process. In the 1930s, the factory became part of the State Engineering Works. It was most likely at this time that a model shop building was constructed on the eastern part of the property, associated with the activities of the State Engineering Works' Study Office, which designed Polish vehicle and engine models, and an aluminum foundry.
