Thousands of faithful participated in the indulgence ceremonies in Licheń on Sunday (July 5, 2026). The indulgence of Our Lady of Licheń, which falls on July 2, was moved a year ago to the first Sunday in July and has likely become permanently associated with the National Pilgrimage of Village Leaders and Rural Communities. In folk tradition, this Marian feast is called Our Lady of the Berries. Legend has it that Mary, while traveling to visit her cousin Elizabeth, ate wild berries along the way. This year's indulgence mass was presided over by Auxiliary Bishop Łukasz Buzun of Kalisz, who comes from the Pauline Order and is therefore particularly close to Marian spirituality. After Mass, the faithful, singing Marian hymns, walked in procession through the sanctuary with a copy of the image of Our Lady of Licheń. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the transfer of the miraculous image of Mary from St. Dorothy's Church to the Basilica in Licheń. The beautiful musical accompaniment for the ceremony was provided by the "Stabat Mater" choir, conducted by Jacek Hyżny, and the sanctuary's wind quintet.
