#Dragon fruit fresh Fruits# ඔන්න සුද්දා ගෙඩි කඩන්නයි යන්නේ
When we were children, this wonderful tropical Dragon fruit didn't exist in Sri Lanka and of course in the world. But soon after it was introduced to Sri Lanka recently, it became so well-known and adored by all. In our hamlet, the dragon fruit is a highly popular fruit. Brother Thusitha has a sizable dragon fruit farm not far from our home. Actually, he invited me to visit and gather whatever I choose because the current dragon fruit harvest was thriving and prosperous. Anyone who looked at them would find it attractive because they resembled gorgeous red balloons and were also plumped. This time, Brother Thusitha grew a different variety with white flesh in bit of pink in outer layer. I had never previously made jam with dragon fruit. In contrast to the previous jam I produced from various other fruits, I suddenly observed while creating the jam that its tint was pale. I unexpectedly noticed the blue butterfly pea blossoms that were looking at me in vase, like they asking me to put them in the jam, so it was just a coincidence. The brilliant peacock blue colour of the jam was created when the lovely blue of the blue butterfly pea flower was blended with the yellow tint of the jam. When compared to other jams, it'd bit of slimy and even the texture of this dragon fruit jam was quite unique, and the colour was further accentuated by the dragon fruit seeds. Our Brother took a long time to prepare one of his mocktails as I was making the jam. I cautiously moved over to that side to check why he was taking so long to bring the drink. I was enthralled to see that he had put a lot of time and work into slicing the dragon fruits and the yellow water melon(honey melon) into incredibly little bits, and his beverage was stunning with an arresting rose colour. I was quite intrigued about how he achieved this brilliant shade, and he responded by explaining that he boiled lemon and dragon fruit skins to produce a stunning rose hue. His beverage was also incredibly tasty and reviving. I had the idea to add some dragon fruit jam to an entirely different dish to make it unique and international. I obtained some imported fruits through Uncle Siriwardena from Negombo as my ingredients for this new international dessert. When I looking the dessert that I had made it by incorporating plums and red and black grapes, I was filled with joy and satisfaction. I was overcome with joy when I heard my Brother's sincere remarks about how good the dessert was. Of course, I kept my inside happiness hidden from him as knowing my brother, he could refrain from complimenting any of my other delectable dishes in the future, thinking that I will be proud of his constant compliments. #villagefood #village #villagelife
