READ a lot of music, and do it frequently. IMSLP.org is a great resource for a lot of free, legal out-of-print sheet music, and going through and reading as much as you can will give you tons of practice. Reading sheet music is like reading a foreign language, which can be brutally difficult in the beginning, but eventually becomes as natural as "speaking" language, like performing music.
