One of the most beautiful and realistic model railroad layouts of the Nordland Line in Norway
In recent years, model railway layouts based on Norwegian landscapes have frequently been presented at European model railway exhibitions. Some of those model railroad layouts focus on replicas of realistic railway stations of the famous Flåm Line (“Flåmsbana”), of the Bergen Line (“Bergensbanen”) or of the Nordland Line (“Nordlandsbanen”), while others highlight scale models of Norwegian locomotives and trains. Without a doubt, all of those are works of art in rail transport modeling. Model railroader Hans Peters and the members of the model railroading club “Modelspoorteam de Maaslijn” have built a Norwegian model train layout that is extremely beautiful and very realistic. This model railway layout depicts two tourist attractions in Norway: At the one hand, there is the so-called “Hell Stasjon” (railway station) with a branch line to Meråkerbanen and on the other hand, there is the geographical point where trains of the Nordland Line cross the Arctic Circle. The miniature world depicts the transition from the rugged Arctic landscape in the North of Norway to the green landscapes in the South of Norway along the Nordland Line. The railway bridge over the river symbolizes the connection between these two tourist attractions in Norway. Many loving details on the model rail layout are intended to reflect everyday life in Norway, for example a small harbour, several boathouses, a farm shop, a railway station, and a locomotive shed with a turntable. After a construction period of 30 months, Hans Peters has created a wonderful miniature world with a keen sense of the intricacies of the country and its railways. The scenery was almost entirely built by hand. The length of the model rail layout is 6.0 meters. The depth is approximately 1.0 meters. The hidden fiddle yard at the rear of the model railroad layout contains seven tracks and ensures a great variety of Norwegian model train sets. Locomotives and trains are manufactured by Norsk Modelljernbane, the largest manufacturer of Scandinavian model trains. The trains that can be seen on the model railway layout, provide a complete picture of the rolling stock that has run or still runs on the Nordland Line since 1947.
