To transform a passive subwoofer into an active one, you need to add a power amplifier. The amplifier can be placed inside the subwoofer or in a separate unit. In this project, an internal amplifier was added, with connections for both amplifiers/receivers that have an output for an active subwoofer, and for older amplifiers that need to use the speaker outputs to connect an active subwoofer.
