The Ronettes - Home Of The Brave (2025 Remaster) [Unreleased 1965 Acetate]
A restored version of the unreleased Ronnie Spector / Ronettes recording “Home Of The Brave” from Gold Star Records Written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, produced by Phil Spector and arranged by Jack Nitzsche. I adore this acetate so much and it is a miracle that it even surfaced. I tried my best to bring some new light to Ronnie's vocals and the glorious instrumental under all of that noise. I find it much more enjoyable to listen to now! Although the original is always worth a listen as well! Hopefully one day they will release the Ronettes vault and we can hear some more unfinished recordings… The footage is from home movies shot by Myron Wachendorf when his group Myron Lee and the Caddies toured with The Ronettes in 1963, you can find them all on their website: myronlee.com/videos/ Some familiar people in these movies, such as Little Eva and Dick Clark! I couldn’t of worked on this without the original upload by Anthony Reichardt, thank you for your preservation efforts and sharing it to the world! Here is the original description from his video describing how this surfaced: NO COPYRIGHT INFRIINGEMENT INTENDED - (Unreleased Philles Records Recording) In the summer of 1965, record producer Phil Spector, issued a single on his Philles records subsidiary label, Phi-Dan entitled, 'Home Of The Brave' by Bonnie and The Treasures. Composed by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, the marvelous 'Wall Of Sound' track was produced by Spector protege', Jerry Riopelle and arranged by Nick DeCaro. Although the record featured the lead vocal of Charlotte O'Hara, over the years many incorrectly assumed it was the voice of Ronettes lead singer, Veronica 'Ronnie' Bennett. In October 2020 while sorting through her mothers musical artifacts, Jana O'Hara found among many Gold Star recording Studios acetate discs, one 8 inch disc that was unlabeled. Solving the 56 year old mystery of whether or not a version of 'Home Of The Brave' by the Ronettes existed can now be put to rest. Although the sound quality of the acetate is very poor due to the severe deterioration of the playing surface, it appears to be the unfinished original version of the tune. Produced by Phil Spector, arranged by Jack Nitzsche and engineered by Larry Levine, the recording features the lead vocal of Veronica 'Ronnie' Bennett above the basic backing track before the addition of strings and background vocals.
