Although now it consists of a couple of dozen houses, before the advent of Novy Urgal there were more than 4,000 people here back in 1979. The Novy Urgal station is located on km 347 of the Izvestkovaya - Chegdomyn line. The exit to BAM from this line is located at km 3306 of BAM. Urgal-1 station is located on the combined section of the BAM and the Izvestkovaya - Chegdomyn line, at 3311 km of the BAM. Chegdomyn station is located at 374 km of the Izvestkovaya - Chegdomyn line. If you count from the BAM, then this is 3311 km (Urgal-1 station) plus 16 km of the Izvestkovaya - Chegdomyn line.
