I started my exploration of metalworking by melting pewter objects. It's a great way to learn about the properties of metals and to start making small metal objects yourself! This furnace seems to allow you to melt brass (beware of zinc fumes! You can reduce zinc evaporation by adding a little borax to the crucible), various bronzes, gold and silver, and, to a certain extent, copper, although there's very little margin for error to achieve a high-quality casting. Remember that Zamak-type alloys are easy to melt and are almost as strong as mild steel!
