IEBC fines Wanjiku Muhia Sh1.5 million over campaign remarks

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has fined Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia 1.5 million shillings for violating the Electoral Code of Conduct through alleged inflammatory remarks made during an Ol Kalou by-election campaign rally. The IEBC's Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee also ordered the legislator to issue a public apology, warning that failure to comply could result in her being barred from participating in future elections. The committee has also summoned UDA MP David Gikaria to appear before it on Monday over alleged campaign misconduct after he admitted distributing 1.2 million shillings to residents during a political rally in the Ol Kalou by-election campaign.
