Memorable Performance #10 | Garland Waltz from Sleeping Beauty | State Street Ballet

Welcome to Episode 10 of Opera San Luis Obispo's "Memorable Performances" series! This Memorable Performance is from State Street Ballet's 2022 production of Pyor Ilyich Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty: more specifically the famous "Garland Waltz" made famous in the 1959 Disney adaptation set to the words "I love you, I walked with you once upon a dream". This special production is also the premiere of a new reduced orchestration of the entire ballet, significantly reducing the size of the orchestra. Believe it or not, Tchaikovsky's three ballets were originally written for an orchestra of about 80-90 musicians. The version in this video is for an orchestra of 39 musicians! Can you tell the difference? Based on the original choreography by Marius Petipa, additional choreography is by Marina Fliagina, Cecily MacDougall, and Megan Philipp. The Opera San Luis Obispo Grand Orchestra is conducted by Brian Asher Alhadeff.
