Prohibited Beatz - JoJo Mayer's "Nerve" (2002 Documentary)
© 2002 Produced, Written, and Directed by Julie Covello. Co-written and edited by Steve Covello. This documentary film traces drummer Jojo Mayer's transformation from playing straight jazz and pop to deconstructing digital Drum 'n' Bass rhythms and sounds into live improvised music. Drawing from the street vibes of New York City Hip-Hop and the underground DnB scene, Jojo and his bandmates struggle to make it in the Rudy Giuliani anti-nightclub era and Cabaret laws that prohibit dancing.
