Telling and showing are two different literary techniques we can use in our novels and stories. You've probably heard of them before, but you may not know the exact difference. Let's see what they mean. TELLING: When you tell (or say) what happens in your story, you are informing the reader about what happened. As a general rule, you would use an omniscient narrator (one who "knows everything"), so you can get into the characters' heads and describe their emotions and thoughts. SHOW: When you show what happens in your story, you're not only informing the reader about what happened, but also allowing them to imagine the scene. The narrator can be very varied, but they will pay attention to the stimuli you perceive through the senses to provide the reader with information. What is "better," telling or showing?
