But it continuously receives information via countless nerves. A billion bits every second, day and night. And from this, it constructs its world: its perception of friends and relatives, its idea of ​​itself. But nothing is as it seems! Not the pen in your hand, not the strawberry in your mouth. It's only red and sweet because the brain makes it red and sweet. The world as we experience it is a hallucination produced in the brain. A good hallucination, one we can live with quite well, one that helps us navigate the world. But not reality. Meanwhile, research is constantly sharpening our view into the brain: For the first time, it has been possible to visualize people's dreams! Just recently, neural pathways were mapped in the living brain! Questions remain: Where does character reside? Why are women and men so different? Does Sudoku make you smarter, jogging, or meditation? Almost every day, brain research provides new answers—and raises new questions. Are we what our brains believe we are? Are we our brains?
