Initially identified in 1929 and protected as a Heritage Asset of Departmental Interest, it contains remains of ancient indigenous settlements and pottery. Riverine Environment: This is a key access point to the rich wetlands of the Santa Lucía River, habitat for more than half of the country's bird species. Near Santiago Vázquez, the area has been the site of rescues and recreational activities on the river. Navigational Legacy: The port is deeply linked to the history of the Barra swing bridge (inaugurated in 1925), built to allow the passage of commercial vessels traveling on the river.
