Despite their ease of use in our daily lives, detergents are deeply rooted in science, requiring a remarkable ability to optimally balance different families of ingredients to achieve the synergies needed to achieve our goals. In this episode of Le Scienze Live, we'll explore how the cleaning process works and the functions of detergents. We'll learn about some of their ingredients, their function, and the most suitable formulation to achieve the desired results. We'll explore the various stages of detergent development, which are characterized by intense research and development and regulatory compliance, enabling the creation of detergents capable of supporting an increasingly eco-sustainable cleaning process. SPEAKERS Ruggero Sala is President of the Auxiliaries for Detergents and Surfactants Group at Aispec and a member of the Board of Directors of the Mapic Group (cosmetic ingredients sector), both Groups belonging to Federchimica, the Italian Federation of the Chemical Industry. He is Vice President of one of the five Business Units of Italmatch Chemicals S.p.A., a multinational company operating in the specialty chemicals sector serving the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, detergents, construction, and other industries. He is a chemist by training with technical, sales, and marketing experience, and holds a Master's degree in Financial Management from SDA Bocconi in Milan. Fabio Costinti, a graduate in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Padua, is an expert formulator and project leader in the detergents sector and inventor of several patents in the fields of limescale removers and laundry additives. He has worked at Italmatch since 2014, with global responsibility for monitoring the market and developing new raw materials for detergents and personal care. Member of the Technical Committee of the Mapic Group and the Detergent Auxiliaries and Surfactants Group. Paola Granata holds a degree in Chemistry from the University of Milan and a PhD in Cosmetic Science and Technology from the University of Siena. Since 2006, she has served as Secretary of the AISPEC Detergent Auxiliaries and Surfactants Group at Federchimica. She is also a member of the Executive Committee of the European Surfactants Association (CESIO) and has coordinated the meetings of the national associations represented in CESIO since 2015.
