Repentance in the context of salvation is to turn away from your sin of unbelief, and to turn to Jesus Christ as your savior. Much false preaching today claims that the word repent means to turn from all your sins in such a way that your sincerity merits salvation. But the bible clearly states in Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Sadly, there is far too much debate among believers today concerning the terms "Lordship Salvation" and "Easy Believism." After sitting under much polluted preaching, many Christians do not even know if they have truly been saved, or if they have sincerely repented enough for God to extend them the free gift of salvation that he plainly promised to all who will call upon the name of the Lord.
