In fact, there are many different materials, and the options are endless depending on the thickness and splice type. Furthermore, I have had the experience of not knowing how long enough was, so I made the wrong material or length and then threw it away...a wasteful mistake. I have made a simple instructional video for beginner captains, so please take a look. Regarding anchor rope, which I have received many questions about, I think it is best to prepare a length that is at least three times the water depth. For example, if you are planning to anchor at a depth of 30m, you will need 30 x 3 = 90m or more. In my case, I use five 20m ropes strung together. It is best to choose a rope that is one or two levels larger in thickness, as long as it is not too thick!
