I know everyone's excited about this. About Avengers: Doomsday. About the returns. Captain America. Epic Thor. The original X-Men. How they'll get Robert Downey Jr. as Doom. But… there's something that worries me a lot. We're celebrating the Multiverse unearthing the heroes we thought we'd said goodbye to, without realizing that Hollywood is selling us a triumph in exchange for emptying our favorite stories of meaning. We cried in Endgame because we believed the sacrifice was real. We believed we'd never see Cap again… that we'd never see this face (Robert Downey Jr.) again, but today, Marvel has turned death into a formality. Reed from Doctor Strange, only for another one to appear. Logan, only for him to come back again. Charles, Charles, and in this one, Charles again. The problem isn't that they're coming back. The problem is that they're not really leaving. How can we care if these characters die when there's always another multiverse where they reappear? How can we care about a story where the risk of death is zero? Today we're not going to analyze the CGI, the colors, or anything like that. This video isn't about whether Avengers: Doomsday will be good or bad. This video is about why THIS might be ruining the one thing that made these stories matter.
