Where Did RUTHLESS Serial Killer TED BUNDY Live in Utah?
In 1974, residents of the Pacific Northwest feared for their lives. Notorious Serial Killer Ted Bundy had stalked the young women in parks and on college campus throughout the region. But as autumn arrived, he left his hunting grounds in and around Seattle and went to Salt Lake City to attend law school. And continue to prey upon a new set of victims. In our previous 4 videos on Ted Bundy, linked below, I spent time visiting the sites around Seattle, Tacoma and Washington State where Bundy began his Reign of Terror. And for most people, they think mainly of Seattle when looking at Bundy. That’s just the start of his grisly story. Ted Bundy lived in Utah for parts of 3 years. He continued his education here. He also continued to stalk and kill young women in the Beehive State. More importantly, Utah detectives were the ones who first figured out Bundy was responsible for these terrible crimes. Utah prosecutors convicted him first. And ultimately, they extradited him to Colorado to face trial for murder. But that’s another series of videos for us to look forward to. So I wanted to spend some time here as well. Seeing the places he lived and tracking down the stories of his victims and survivors. He came to Salt Lake City to study law at the University of Utah. Law School rankings weren’t as much of a thing back in the 70s, but the University of Utah in recent years has risen to a top ranked public law school. When Bundy attended classes, it was a step up from his first law school in Tacoma. Bundy had gotten a Psychology degree from the University of Washington, but had attended 3 universities on the way to his degree. One of them, The University of Puget Sound would be his first law school. But he aspired to bigger things. To get there, he sought the help of his professors and the Governor of Washington. Bundy had volunteered on the Governors successful campaign in 1974. With those recommendations, he was able to secure a spot at the University of Utah’s S. J. Quinney School of Law. When he arrived in Utah he needed to find a place to live. And like his time in Seattle, he found a rooming house near the University Campus on 1st Avenue. We’ll check out both the rooming house and the Law School. But that wasn’t the only place Bundy lived in while in Salt Lake City. He also lived in apartments on Douglas Street and B Street. We’ll hit all of them and take some time to discuss the events surrounding his moves while in Utah. His final residence in Utah was the Utah State Prison in Draper, just south of Salt Lake City. That prison has since been closed. But Bundy would not stay there long. We’ll cover more of Bundy in the coming videos, which I will link below as they are released.
