Robert Owen was born into poverty in Wales in seventeen seventy-one. By twenty, he was managing a cotton mill. By thirty, he co-owned New Lanark: a factory community that would become one of the most important social experiments of its time. He believed in better conditions, shorter hours, education, and care. But he also believed that structure alone could create moral citizens. This story explores how Owen tried to build a new kind of society, and what happened when those ideals were tested.
