Suhaag (1972) was Zia Mohyeddin’s second Pakistani film after Mujrim Kaun?. It was directed by Fareed Ahmed and produced by Shamim Ara under the banner of Shamim Ara Productions. Shamim Ara also played the lead role, appearing opposite Nadeem and Zia Mohyeddin. Adapted from Hameeda Jabeen’s novel Saemi, the film placed Nadeem in a character with morally grey, villainous shades, bringing tension to its romantic and social drama. The music was composed by Nashad. For Zia Mohyeddin—already acclaimed for his work in English films and Urdu television—Suhaag was a departure into the heightened, emotionally expressive world of Pakistani commercial cinema.
