He had everything you wanted in your franchise player, and looked like he was well on his way to being that for the Portland Trailblazers in the mid-late 2000s. Brandon Roy had starred in Seattle at Garfield High School then had a great 4 year career with the University of Washington Huskies where he improved every year along side guys like Nate Robinson, Will Conroy and Tre Simmons. After his 4 years, he found himself still close to home in nearby Portland Oregon, playing for the Portland Trailblazers who had acquired him and forward LaMarcus Aldridge in the 2006 NBA draft. These two looked to be the future and when the Blazers drafted Greg Oden the following year, it seemed it was only a matter of time before they ruled the west. Oden’s career never got off the ground, But Roy went from a Rookie of the Year, to NBA All-Star to All-NBA within his first three seasons, and he was only going to get better. But then his knees began giving out in year 4, and by the end of his fifth season, he was forced to retire at just 27 years old. He would attempt a brief comeback with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2013, but all in all, Brandon Roy only was able to play a little over 5 years in the NBA. However, during that time he showed you everything, from high scoring nights, to posterizing dunks, to tough and unselfish play, and his best trait, his clutch gene. As even up until the end, Brandon Roy was the guy you wanted to have the ball in the final seconds.
