Tim Maia, stage name of Sebastião Rodrigues Roberto Carlos Maia (Rio de Janeiro, September 28, 1942 – Niterói, March 15, 1998) was a Brazilian singer, composer, conductor, music producer, instrumentalist, and businessman, responsible for introducing the soul and funk genres to Brazilian popular music and recognized as one of the greatest icons of music in Brazil. His songs were marked by the hoarseness of his voice, always deep and powerful, achieving great sales and consecrating many hits. He was born and raised in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where, during his youth, he associated with Jorge Ben Jor and Erasmo Carlos. In 1957, he founded the group The Sputniks, in which he sang alongside Roberto Carlos. In 1959, he emigrated to the United States, where he had his first contact with soul music, but was arrested and deported for theft and drug possession. In 1970, he recorded his first album, titled *Tim Maia*, which quickly became a success with songs like "Azul da Cor do Mar" and "Primavera". #timmaia #cemetery #saintfranciscoxavier #riodejaneiro #tomb
