Berlin Tango 1930: Marek Weber Tanz-Orch. - Lieber kleiner Eintänzer
Marek WEBER und sein Orchester - Lieber kleiner Eintänzer (Lovely Little Gigolo) Tango (Willy Rosen – Robert Gilbert) mit Refraingesang, Electrola (Germany) 1930 NOTE: The “gigolos” (in German: eintänzer or vortänzer) were in the first decades of 20th century, the good looking men hired at the night clubs to keep company with the elder & rich women, especially when dancing. In their most, they were immoral individuals, surrounded by the contempt of other men and very often, the sighing of women who were in love with them. In the 1920s, the “gigolo” profession was widespread because of the moral derailment of the European nations who experienced horrors of the Great War, especially Germany, which was beaten and humiliated. Many ex-soldiers who were dismissed from military services used to fall into that profession, thus finding a source of income. Many songs were written about them, including famous tango 'Just a Gigolo' by Italian composer Cassucci (see the German version: “Schӧner Gigolo” by Otto Fassel with Bernard Etté’s Orchestra • Schöner Gigolo - Otto Fassel & Orch. Berna... ) or in Poland a beautiful tango/ blues 'So long, my lovely Gigolo' (Bądź zdrów, mój mały gigolo) written and composed by the Polish renowned poet Marian Hemar. (See its fascinating interpretation by the Polish actress of the 1960s, Barbara Rylska • Barbara Rylska "Recital" - Sex-Appeal - (A... from 28:28 to 32:02 ). In 1978, the British/German movie "Just a Gigolo" was released with David Bowie featured as the title character, partnered by Sydne Rome, Kim Novak & Marlene Dietrich as the Baroness. Marek Weber is one of the best hot-dance bands performing in Germany during the Weimar Republic. Having emigrated from Poland (Lwów) in 1918 to Germany and then to USA, Marek Weber became in the 1940s - 50s the American radio celebrity nicknamed “The King of Waltz” and waxing enormous amount of records with waltzes and another promenade music pieces – while back in the 1920s he was known in Europe as one of the hottest jazz-oriented dance bands of the German Roaring Twenties. He was then also a masterful performer of many German and Argentine hit tangos.
