Selling Inherited Retirement Homes: Paula Higgins Speaks Out on ITV News

Selling an inherited retirement home can be a difficult and costly process for grieving families. Paula Higgins, CEO of the HomeOwners Alliance, recently spoke to ‪@ITVNews‬ about how some families end up losing as much as £10,000 due to unexpected fees and charges. Many face confusing legal processes, high estate agent costs, and delays that add extra stress during an already emotional time. Paula emphasizes the need for greater transparency and fair treatment to protect those trying to sell inherited properties. Over the last decade here at the HomeOwners Alliance we’ve had a steady stream of unhappy homeowners and their grown children dealing with retirement property problems. This is why we are launching a campaign for Retirement Housing Reform. There is no question that we need more retirement housing options in the UK. According to Our Future Homes, we need an estimated 30-50k new later living homes a year – but only build around 7,000 a year. At the same time, we need to ensure the developments we are building work for the homeowners.
