The job we dreamt of, the partner we hoped for, or the ideals we fought for didn't turn out as we had hoped. Rejection always leaves a painful trail, as if all hopes had collapsed. David experienced the bitterness of rejection. When he was about to go to war with the Philistine army, the commanders refused to let him go, suspecting he would turn against them (4). David's fame for defeating tens of thousands of enemies became a threat to the Philistines (5). For Achish, David was a man who had no evil found in him and was recognized as good, but still distrusted and deemed unworthy (6-9). Because of the rejection, David and his men returned home (10-11). However, without David realizing it, the rejection was God's way of saving him, preventing him from turning against his own people. God often works in ways we never expect. Rejection does not mean failure or failure. Rejection can be a form of protection. Sometimes God closes a door because He knows the path behind it will harm us. God is sovereign over our lives, and this is something we need to always remember. And as believers, we are taught to trust that God's plans are always good, even if we don't immediately see the reason. Perhaps we are currently faced with situations that make us doubt God's path because we don't see an open door before us. However, that is precisely where our faith is tested: whether we will continue walking with God or choose to rely on our own, sometimes flawed, understanding. Let us learn to see rejection not as the end of everything, but as an invitation to draw closer to God. When one door closes, we can trust that God has prepared another, better one that will lead us to His greatest plan for us. In rejection, there is protection. In disappointment, there is hope. [SLM]
